FRIDE: Democratic ownership and mutual accountability

Democratic ownership” and mutual accountability are two of the main fields of political controversy in the debate on the global governance of aid.

The democratic ownership is a claim to extend the definition and the development implementation strategies of ownership beyond the governments, toward the parliaments, the institutions of finance and the civil society.

In turn, the surrender of mutual accounts refers to the negotiation, calculation and satisfaction of both parts with regard to the relation of aid: good governance from Southern countries side and good practices from donor’s side.

These questions are being debated in a series of multilateral events at a high level during 2008. In June of 2008, FRIDE carried out a conference in Spain on this subject in which three experts analyzed the current state of the international debate.
