World Bank research project “Aid and Reform in Africa” final report

The Development Research Group of the World Bank has been conducting a research project on “Aid and Reform in Africa”. The aim of the project was to arrive at a better understanding of the links between foreign aid and policy reforms in Africa.

The final report of this project is now available (released 27 March). In order to go beyond the findings that recent cross-country evidence has shown, namely that “foreign aid has a strong, positive effect on a country’s economic performance if the country has undertaken certain policy and structural reforms” but also that “countries with good policies receive less assistance than countries with poor or mediocre policies” the report is analyzing the reform process rather than the results of the reforms.
